PURPOSE: Provide the dissemination of information regarding NANO-SAFETY
The promise of nanotechnology is great. The developing concern is that there is a lack of understanding of the issues of NANO-SAFETY. Much has been made of the potential dangers of "nano" without a sound scientific approach to the investigation of the issues. This site is a gateway into information on issues related to NANO-SAFETY. The issues of NANO-SAFETY for people and the environment are critical. It is imperative to develop means for analysis, procedures for handling, precautionary responses to incidents, and means of evaluating nanotechnology in order to protect people and the environment.
There are a number of people who are investigating means of disseminating information on NANO-SAFETY. The Nanomaterials Application Center is currently the key location for promoting this effort. The Texas State University System Nanotechnology Task Force is involved is an advisory role to developing educational efforts and practices that can be disseminated.
The Trybula Foundation, Inc., is providing support for dissemination of NANO-SAFETY information through web site development, content, and maintenance.
The Nanomaterials Application Center at Texas State University-San Marcos is focused on the promotion of emerging technologies, the development of new concepts and products, and the acceleration of commercial development. With the emphasis on nanotechnology in developing products, the role of ensuring NANO-SAFETY becomes paramount. Consequently, the establishment of NANO-SAFETY requirements, procedures, processes, and the dissemination of this information if critical for the future deployment of products incorporating nanotechnology.
Material on this site may be employed for furthering the issues of NANO-SAFETY as long as proper credit is given as to the source of the material. This effort includes a number of organizations, with the focal point being the Nanomaterials Application Center at Texas State University-San Marcos. Also, appreciation is expressed to the Trybula Foundation for providing support for the web site.
NANO-SAFETY should always be capitalized because there is nothing small with respect to safety efforts in nanotechnology.
